Role Description
Box Elder Behavioral Health LLC is seeking a compassionate and motivated Virginia Resident in Counseling to provide telehealth services to children ages 8 and older, adolescents, and adults. This position is ideal for a developing clinician who is committed to ethical, evidence-based care and interested in gaining experience within a supportive, specialized behavioral health practice.
The Resident in Counseling will provide individual therapy and may also have opportunities to work with couples, families, or therapeutic groups based on training, experience, and clinical need. The clinician will support clients experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger-related concerns, substance use, behavioral addictions, relationship challenges, and problematic sexual behaviors.
Responsibilities

Provide evidence-based telehealth counseling to assigned clients.

Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.

Maintain accurate and timely progress notes and other required clinical documentation.

Assess and respond appropriately to safety concerns, including suicidal ideation, abuse, neglect, and other crises.

Participate consistently in required supervision, case consultation, staff meetings, and training.

Incorporate supervisory feedback into clinical practice and professional development.

Maintain professional and timely communication with clients, supervisors, staff members, and approved referral sources.

Coordinate care with legal, clinical, family, and community professionals when appropriate and authorized.

Follow all Box Elder Behavioral Health policies, professional ethical standards, telehealth requirements, and Virginia Board of Counseling regulations.

Participate in marketing, referral-building, and practice-development efforts, including contributing educational content and professional materials, to build and maintain an individual caseload.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution that meets Virginia Board of Counseling educational requirements.

Active Virginia Resident in Counseling license or eligibility to obtain the required license before beginning clinical services.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries with clients and supervisor.

Foundational training in clinical assessment, treatment planning, documentation, ethics, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and crisis response.

Ability to work independently while appropriately seeking supervision and consultation.

Strong written communication, organization, professionalism, and time-management skills.

Access to a private workspace, reliable internet connection, and appropriate technology for telehealth services.

Familiarity with HIPAA.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous practicum, internship, residency, or outpatient behavioral health experience.

Experience providing telehealth counseling.

Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, or court-involved clients.

Training or interest in trauma-informed care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, substance-use treatment, behavioral addictions, relationship concerns, or problematic sexual behaviors.

Familiarity with electronic health records and remote clinical workflows.

Interest in developing a consistent caseload and growing professionally within a group practice.

Experience with SimplePractice is a plus.

Ability and openness to work effectively with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, military service members, veterans, and clients seeking faith-based services.
